Your girlfriend will finally believe it when you say you readPlayboyfor the articles, because soon that’s all that will be left. After 62 years in the erotic imagery biz, the iconic magazine has announced that it will stop featuring photos of fully nude women.
The struggling magazine’s announcement isn’t a surprise to some.Playboyexecs admit that, in an era in which free porn is only a few clicks away, its once-scandalous images have lost their shock value.Playboy’s circulation has dropped from 5.6 million in 1975 to approximately 800,000 today.
ThePlayboywebsite ditched full nudity in August 2014, resulting in a web traffic jump from 4 million to 16 million unique visitors per month. The company hopes a similar strategy will work equal wonders for its print version.
The new magazine will adopt a cleaner, more modern style and, despite the nudity ban, will still feature women “in provocative poses.” Look for the redesign to hit shelves in March 2019.
